World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.
Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.
Item level is a commonly used measurement of power and is visible on all item tooltips. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the level of an item. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it will be able to deal. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, including its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories on how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory states that the item level is determined by formulas that determine the value of an item's stats actually are. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl since the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat mods which are then boosted by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other rerolling methods.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat within the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. Like the base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It gives players a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in early game runs as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.
Additionally some items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it is not successful.
The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
