The Item Upgrader in World of Warcraft
The War Within introduced two gear upgrade currencies: Valorstones and Harbinger Crests. They can be exchanged at the NPCs for upgrading items, Cuzolth and Vaskarn.
Each item can be upgraded to its maximum level for a particular slot at a time. Then upgrades to the slot will be cheaper. The pity system, introduced with The War Within, also lowers the extreme upgrade variance.
